In case you're curious about how a book cover evolves from initial sketch to final design, Pat Carbajal has posted some of his sketches for the Back to the Future Lexicon, as well as the final painting that was used in creating the book's cover.

Out of curiosity, have you considered the notion of selling prints of the covers to your books? Pat's work is absolutely incredible, and should be on walls all around the world.

We tried it with the Planet of the Apes covers, but they were removed by CafePress due to copyright issues. So far the BttF covers are still up.
